We are currently accepting donations to fund the 2025 owl banding project. Please join us in our efforts to continue this important research!
Get involved
In January 2025, the Friends of Whitefish Point entered into a collaborative partnership with Lake Michigan Bird Observatory (LMBO), a 501(c)3 organization. LMBO places collaborative research in the Western Great Lakes as a high priority, much like our own mission statement. The Friends of Whitefish Point acts as an independent organization, but with the benefit of having LMBO serve as our non-profit sponsor to assist with the administrative end of our fund-raising work.
This year, our goal is to raise $75,000 to cover the cost of the full 2025 year of owl banding. All donations made are tax-deductible.
General Donation
The Friends of Whitefish Point is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization through Lake Michigan Bird Observatory. Your donation goes directly to our research, monitoring, and education programs. All of our funding comes from donations and small grants. This year, our budget to run all of the owl monitoring, programs and events is about $75,000.
This annual campaign provides funds that may be used where they are needed and matter most. Your donation is the key to our success. Thank you!
Endowment Fund
As a private non-profit, the Friends of Whitefish Point relies solely on donations and grants to continue our work. Part of our planned giving involves looking forward into the coming years.
The Les Cheneaux Community Foundation has established an Endowment Fund specifically for the Friends of Whitefish Point. The goal of the endowment is to eventually generate reliable, ongoing funds to sustain our organization in the future. While it grows into that role, the fund will also provide an annual spendable allowance.
